Qualifying as a music teacher with B.Ed. Honours degree from Birmingham Univerity, Craig studied trombone with Reg Reid and Chris Mowat (then principle trombone with the BBC Symphony Orchestra). Craig began his instrumental career with Dudley Performing Arts for which he worked for 30 years. During this time he came Head of Brass until taking early retirement in 2016. He then went on to teach trombone at Wolverhampton University where his students all attained a First in musical performance as well as running a number of conducting masterclasses.
He now enjoys working for Worcestershire based Seven Arts where besides being an instrumental brass teacher, conducts the Worcester Youth Wind Orchestra. He also works at Winterfold House School where besides brass teaching, runs both the junior and senior ensembles.
Craig has played for many Championship Brass Bands, notably Staffordshire Building Society Brass Band, Heart of England Brass Band and freelancing as a trombone player for orchestras around the West Midlands. In his spare time, he sings with the Birmingham Bach Choir, and is Musical Director for the Phoenix Big Band West Midlands Light Orchestra, West Mercia Police Brass Band, as well as a number of amateur operatic societies. Away from music he enjoys tennis, football and cycling.
